How to sign a PDF online without an account

Create a signature, place it on your PDF, and download a signed copy. Make Signature Online adds signature images on your device, without sending the document to a signing server.

The short version

On the homepage, create a signature and choose Use on document. Choose your PDF, select the signature, tap the page to place it, then download the signed PDF.

1. Create or import your signature

Choose Draw signature to write with a mouse, finger, or stylus. Type signature turns your name into a handwriting design. If you already have a photo or scan of your handwriting, use Extract signature to remove the paper background. The background removal guide explains how to prepare a clean image.

For a signature you already saved as a transparent PNG, open Sign document and choose Import a transparent PNG. Use a dark signature on a light page so the handwriting remains visible.

2. Open your PDF on the homepage

Choose Use on document after making a signature, or open Sign document directly. Select Choose PDF. The tool supports PDFs up to 25 MB and 200 pages. The file is read in your browser; the original file on your device is not overwritten.

Encrypted PDFs and PDFs with existing certificate signatures are not supported. If the file is rejected, obtain an unsigned, unencrypted copy through the document owner’s normal process.

3. Place, move, and resize the signature

  1. Select a saved signature in the sidebar.
  2. Tap or click the page where the signature belongs. You can also choose Place signature on this page.
  3. Drag the signature to move it. Use its corner handle or the size slider to resize it.
  4. Use the arrow keys for small position adjustments when a signature is selected.

Keep the signature inside the page and clear of nearby text. If you place it incorrectly, select it and choose Remove, or use Undo. Changing the preview zoom helps you inspect the position without changing the document’s page size.

4. Add signatures on other pages

Use the page selector or Previous and Next buttons to navigate. Select the same saved signature and place it wherever another mark is needed. Duplicate creates another placement that you can move. The placements list helps you review what you have added; the total count includes placements across pages.

Switching between the signature creator and document editor keeps your work in the current tab. Refreshing or closing the page clears that working copy, so download before leaving.

5. Download and review the signed copy

Choose Download signed PDF once you have placed a signature. Open the downloaded file in your PDF viewer and check every signed page, the signature size, and surrounding text. Keep the unsigned original in case you need a fresh copy.

The tool adds images to the PDF. It does not add text or date fields, send signing invitations, verify a signer’s identity, or generate an audit trail. If you need a certificate-based signature, see electronic versus digital signatures before choosing your workflow.

Common problems

The download button is disabled
Choose a PDF and place at least one signature on a page. Creating a signature without placing it does not change the PDF.
A white box covers the page
Import a transparent PNG instead of a JPG, or create a new signature in Draw or Type mode.
The signature is on the wrong page
Review the placements list, remove the incorrect placement, and add it on the intended page.
I need to send a request for someone else to sign
This tool prepares a local signed copy. It does not manage a multi-person signing process or email requests.

Read privacy and security details for the difference between local document processing and ordinary requests to the website host.
